Pi Beta Phi

Pi Beta Phi is an international Fraternity for Women filled with sisters who have a vision to make positive contributions to society. Formed as I.C. Sorosis at Monmouth College in 1967, the sisterhood became the first college society of women modeled after men’s Greek fraternities. The group’s motto, “Pi Beta Phi,” later became the formal name of the organization, which was recognized as a women’s fraternity rather than a sorority. With over 200 chapters ever installed, there are over 300,000 collegiate members today and over 300 alumnae organizations in the United States and Canada.

Notable alumnae include Jennifer Garner (Golden-Globe-winning actress and producer), Barbara Bush (41st First Lady of the U.S.), and Patricia Maclachlan (author of Sarah, Plain, and Tall and recipient of the Newbery Medal for children’s literature). The sisterhood is committed to philanthropy, and sisters actively participate in community service efforts. The Pi Beta Phi Foundation has supported the success of their initiative Read > Lead > Achieve, which advocates for literacy by inspiring a "lifelong love of reading." This initiative has empowered sisters to rise as leaders while helping others in need.
