Phi Beta Sigma

Phi Beta Sigma brothers abide by the motto “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity.” In 1914, Phi Beta Sigma was founded by three African-American male students at Howard University who had a vision for an inclusive Greek letter organization that upheld values of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. With over 290,000 lifetime members, the fraternity has diverse roots with brothers from all backgrounds in the U.S., Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Members such as scientist George Washington Carver, actor Blair Underwood (L.A. Law), TV personality and anchor Al Roker (NBC’s Today) are devoted to excellence and making a difference in society.

Men of Sigma commit their time to scholarship, service, and community initiatives. Brothers partner with organizations like the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and Boy Scouts of America in order to give back to the global community. As part of its national mentoring program, Phi Beta Sigma mentors 1,500 young men every year, helping them prepare for college and the workforce.
